Day 2 - Nami Island, South Korea

After having lunch we were already very sleepy.  It was around noon time I think...but felt like it was 10pm to our body already due to sleeping for only 2 or 3 hours the previous night.  We quickly went back to Gimyujeong Station which was just 1 minute walk from our lunch place and took the train to Gapyeong Station.

Really like how Gimyujeong is a small cute station.

Gapyeong Station is a lot bigger compared to Gimyujeong.

Outside Gapyeong Station, there is the tourist info building as show on the right below.  We went in to ask which is the quickest and cheapest way to get to Nami Island.  We could take the 5000 won shuttle bus that goes to all the attractions nearby (such as Nami Island, Le Petit France and Garden of Morning Calm).  Or we could take a short taxi ride to Nami Island.  The tourist guide told us it would cost about 4000 won if we take the taxi.  We thought for a while if we will go to Le Petite France or not.  The thing is, Le Petite France seems like a pretty boring place.  And Garden of Morning Calm...well, there are lots of amazing gardens in Vancouver that we have all visited before.  So, the the end, we decided to only go to Nami Island and take the taxi.  Since we are only going to one place and the shuttle bus only come once every hour.  We didn't want to waste our time waiting.

The taxi stand is just next to the tourist info where the glass covers are.  Once we hopped on the taxi, the driver showed us a piece of paper saying its rush hour and he will need to take a detour.  It looked kind of dodgy but we agreed anyways since it was our first time there.  The ride to Nami Island cost us 6000 won.  But we think the taxi scammed us as this place is really in the middle of nowhere, how can there be traffic jam???  Also, on our way back to Gapyeong Station, we also took the taxi and it only cost us 3000 won and Nami Island was really just around the corner!!!!  WTF!!!  The first taxi driver drove around all over the place from Gapyeong Station to Nami Island.  That kind of pissed us off after we found out we were probably scammed.

Anyways, arriving the pier/ticketing booth of Nami Island, we got the ticket that the ferry to Nami Island.  It's 8000 won for foreigners.  I guess we looked foreign enough so they didn't ask for our passport.

Getting onto the ferry to Nami Island.  The ride takes about 3-5 minutes.  Very quick.  We thought of taking the zip wire to get to the island, but it looked pretty scary to me.

Arriving at the island!  Sooooo many people.  It's crazy.

There's nothing much to do on Nami Island other than taking pictures.  The island isn't very big.  You can rent a bike and have a ride around the island.  It took our around 1 hours to walk around and take pictures.  We were really tired and there were too many people.  We have fully drop the idea of going to Le Petite France.

There are some promotional pictures online where you can see people taking romantic pictures here in the middle of 2 rows of trees in beautiful autumn colors.  However, in reality, this place is very crowded and there is no way you can take a nice picture without including a hundred people in the background.

We were really hungry and decided that we need to get back to the city to grab something to eat.
